Moana Hom (she/her) is a Hawaiian-Chinese filmmaker born and raised in Los Angeles. Storytelling has always been part of her creative core with her foundations built on the teachings from her mākuahine, film education at Loyola Marymount University, and mentors on set in Hollywood.
You will find Moana off set at a live music show or exploring new places. Always curious and always seeking new experiences and communities, Moana allows these life moments to paint her visual worlds.
Moana has been fortunate to blend her love of music with her love of storytelling by art directing music films and music videos for female pop artists Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish. She has art coordinated over 100+ union affiliated advertising commercials with many of the Fortune 500 companies, including Beyoncé's Verizon super bowl commercial. She expands her creative boundaries by collaborating with community artists in various mix medias.
Moana's Hawaiian heritage is a driving force in her creative endeavors. Moana strongly believes in the preservation and perpetuation of Hawaiian culture. She hopes to do so in a form that she knows best - mo'olelo (storytelling). Moana's intention is to see more Hawaiian stories, people, and perspectives represented in film and television.
A recent project she takes pride in, is the production design of the native Hawaiian feature film, Moloka'i Bound, which premiered at the 2024 Hawai'i International Film Festival which won Best Hawai'i Made Feature Film.
